Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal 

When the Timberwolves acquired Rudy Gobert, they were hoping to use him to support Karl-Anthony Towns. They surely weren’t expecting to replace him. 

In fact, this deal relates directly to the deal the Timberwolves made to land Gobert. They gave up four first-round picks in order to land him. Getting three back for Towns has them nearly breaking even. 

Of course, this isn’t all about the draft capital. The Wolves are trying to build a roster that’s more suited to complement Anthony Edwards. This deal has them accomplishing that goal.

A Gobert/Jaden McDaniels/Johnson frontcourt will be formidable on the defensive end. The Wolves will have great spacing following this deal as well.

Gobert provides vertical space, and the rest of their lineup will be filled with knockdown shooters. Edwards will have the space to thrive, and the Wolves will play at a pace that suits him.
