After being a key piece for the Golden State Warriors last year, Jordan Poole struggled greatly in the 2023 NBA postseason. His cold spells got so bad at points that head coach Steve Kerr had no choice but to bench him. Across 13 games, he averaged 10.3 points while shooting 34.3% from the field.
This performance is concerning for the Warriors, as they just recently gave him a massive contract extension. Next year will be the start of his four-year, $128 million deal.
Multiple factors might have led to his struggles, the biggest being his altercation with Draymond Green to start the year. Since the Warriors still feel they can contend for titles, the young guard might be the odd man out this summer.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Jordan Poole, Golden State Warriors & New York Knicks Updates
In an effort to get off his deal, the Warriors might be willing to take calls regarding Poole. One trade scenario suggested that Golden State send him to the New York Knicks in exchange for RJ Barrett.
A move like this could make sense for both sides. For the Warriors, they take on another former top pick that still has the potential to be a good player. Bringing in Andrew Wiggins was a similar type of move, and it worked out great for them.
For the Knicks, it gives them a guard to put next to Jalen Brunson who can score in bunches. The two are both good shot-creators and could give the Knicks a dynamic offense.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Jordan Poole, Golden State Warriors & New York Knicks Updates
Poole showed great promise two years ago, and that player might still be in there. Going to a situation like New York could be good for him. He’d be getting a fresh start and still have the chance to play alongside a winning point guard who can get the best out of him. The money is a lot, but the Knicks might be willing to gamble on his potential.
