When the NBA lottery order was announced, Dallas Mavericks fans breathed a collective sigh of relief.
No, they didn’t land Victor Wembanyama. That’s OK – the odds of doing so were always slim. Realistically, they were just lucky to keep their pick.
So they did. Now, the Mavericks are armed with the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft. Meanwhile, this team feels as likely to move their selection as anybody else. The Mavericks are looking to contend next season.
Perhaps they didn’t land Wembanyama. They could still shop their pick for a floor-spacing big man who protects the rim.
For example, Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers would be the perfect addition.
