The Sacramento Kings made the NBA playoffs this season. By some measures, that made it a successful season. 

After all, the Kings hadn’t made the postseason in 16 years. That isn’t just a long drought. It’s an NBA record. With that in mind, the Kings likely wanted to make a playoff run beyond all else. 

Doesn’t it feel like the Washington Wizards have had a similar playoff drought? They haven’t.

Instead, this organization has simply been in and out of the playoffs over a long stretch of time. 

It has been considerably longer since the Wizards felt like a real title threat. At some point, they may choose to break the cycle of mediocrity.
