For the Warriors, this deal is mostly about money. It’s unfortunate that financial concerns have to come into play here. Still, they do. Green will be due for a new contract soon, and the Warriors won’t be able to afford to give him his market value. 

Sure, they’re taking back a bad deal here. Bertans is overpaid. Still, his contract will be smaller than Green’s, and it will expire much more quickly. Meanwhile, that’s not all the Warriors get here.

Green is a young 3-and-D wing with potential. Throw in an unprotected first-round pick, and the Warriors may have to finally say goodbye to Green. Even if it means the end of a good thing. 

There is no replacing Green. While some may not fully appreciate the extent of his impact on both ends, he cannot be replaced. It doesn’t matter who they are getting in return. The unique nature of his skill-set enables the Warriors to have unparalleled versatility, particularly defensively.
