In fact, some would suggest that even having one non-shooting big man isn’t tenable in the modern NBA.
Those people are perhaps a little too zealous. Yes, there is value in getting floor spacing at the 5. At the same time, there will always be room for rim-running defensive bigs.
With that said players in that mold have to play with maximum effort. Outworking opponents is a large part of their job description.
Apparently, Ayton missed that memo.
