When an NBA team is rebuilding, the first thing they’re looking for is a franchise player. 

Once you’ve got one, generally, you hold onto them for dear life. An All-World talent is the most important component of a competitive NBA team. Little else matters in comparison. 

With that said, if your franchise player is getting into off-court trouble, that’s something to consider. A franchise player can set a cultural tone for a whole team. If they set the wrong tone, it can have widespread negative effects. 

With that in mind, we’re not saying the Memphis Grizzlies should trade Ja Morant. Still, Morant’s off-court drama was a problem this season.

If the Grizzlies want to move on from him, they could get a tremendous haul for the talented young point guard.
