Some things are just meant to happen. Perhaps they almost happened, and then didn’t. This is certainly the case in the NBA, too.
In that event, some will hope that they’ll happen down the road. They got so close, yet they were so far. For example, the Los Angeles Lakers were very close to signing Buddy Hield once.
It was even announced as official. There were many around the NBA that felt the deal was done, including those that would have been involved in the deal.
In the end, as it turned out, it wasn’t. The Lakers went with Russell Westbrook instead. A lot has changed since then.
Now, Westbrook is gone. Meanwhile, the Lakers could still use Hield. His ability to knock down perimeter jump shots and provide spacing would elevate things around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
