Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
If Simmons is going to make a return to form, it doesn’t look likely to happen in Brooklyn.
The Nets tried to reinvent Simmons as a center. It just so happens that Nic Claxton emerged at the same time. Whatever Simmons’ role on an NBA team will look like moving forward, it doesn’t appear available in Brooklyn.
With that in mind, the Nets have his massive contract just eating cap space. That’s not ideal. Given their surplus of draft capital, it’s probably worth a pick to the Nets just to move off of his deal.
Of course, bringing in Collins eases the pain. This is a combo big with an elite vertical leap who can space the floor.
