Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

There’s an irony in framing this trade as we have. Realistically, Wiggins would be coming to replace Barrett in the starting lineup.

That’s fine. Barrett has been inconsistent as a starter for the Knicks. With that said, he could be an outstanding sixth man.

If they made this deal, the Knicks would likely transition Barrett into that role next season.

Although, the Knicks already have a Sixth Man of the Year candidate in Immanuel Quickley. They could move Barrett to the two and play a lineup featuring plenty of size. Anyway, it’s a moot point.
