The NBA world is always talking about who is going to be the next star on the move. After missing the playoffs this season, Dallas Mavericks All-Star Luka Doncic is a new name to enter the mix.
The Mavericks made the conference finals in 2022, but things quickly derailed. It all started when Jalen Brunson departed for the New York Knicks in free agency. Then, to recover from that, the front office took a big swing and traded for Kyrie Irving at the deadline. The move left the roster weak in other areas, which caused them to drop in the standings.
The people of The Athletic also discussed a possible Doncic trade and cited the Utah Jazz as a team with the pieces to get a deal done. Following the Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert trades, they have a war chest of assets to acquire a disgruntled star.
With my spies telling me that Utah in particular is keeping a very interested eye on Luka Doncic’s situation, even the Nets’ kitchen-sink offer for Doncic — the four firsts from Phoenix and one from Philly, plus whatever matching salary not named Bridges is needed to make the deal work — likely falls massively short.

Along with this reporting, a former NBA executive told NBA Analysis Network in April that Utah is a team to monitor if Doncic becomes available.
“There is no telling what the future holds for the Mavs and Luka [Doncic], but teams are swirling like sharks in the water. The Jazz, in particular, plan to pursue Luka if and when he becomes available.”

As of now, Doncic has shown no interest in leaving the Dallas Mavericks. It’s also worth pointing out that he is in the second year of a five-year, $215 million max contract. That being said, if he did request a trade, the Jazz would certainly have one of the best offers.
