Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
Some will oppose this deal for Phoenix. They’ll say that Irving isn’t worth the headache that’s attached to him. They may also say that the Suns can’t afford to lose Ayton.
Let’s address those points in reverse order. If the Suns are bringing in Irving, they can afford to lose Ayton. This is a player whose production can be made up to a large extent at a fraction of his cost.
Meanwhile, Irving is not such a player. Yes, there are concerns about his character, but his game is irreplaceable. This is one of the most talented point guards in the NBA.
Moreover, his relationship with Durant seemingly remains strong. This duo didn’t split up due to bad blood – it was simply time. If Irving wants to rejoin Durant, it could be time to get back together.
