For the past few seasons, the NBA world has waited for Damian Lillard to ask out of Portland. In an era where stars are constantly on the move, he remains fully committed to the team that drafted him. However, as he enters his mid-30s, some are starting to wonder if he’ll have a change of heart.
The Trail Blazers missed the postseason again this year and don’t have many options when it comes to making upgrades. While a rebuild might make the most sense at this point, it won’t happen as long as Lillard is on the roster.
Recently, a former NBA executive spoke to NBA Analysis Network about potential suitors for Lillard if he requests a trade. One of the main teams mentioned was the LA Clippers.
“If the Blazers do make [Damian] Lillard available, many teams will line up with interest. One that I can guarantee that would try to make a deal would be the Clippers.”
Lillard, 32, is still playing some of the best basketball of his career. In 58 games this year, he averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. His season was highlighted by a career-high 71-point eruption back in February.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers & Los Angeles Clippers Updates
If the Blazers are looking to re-tool instead of rebuild, the Clippers could be a good trade partner for them. They don’t have many picks to offer, thanks to the Paul George trade but do have multiple players who could help them right away. LA also has young players like Bones Hyland, who has the potential to take a step forward in a bigger opportunity.
With George and Kawhi Leonard constantly battling injuries, the Clippers might be interested in making a big splash like this. If all three players could stay healthy for a full season, they’d be at the top of the list of title contenders.

Not having picks might hinder the Clippers from getting a deal done, but they’d certainly be one of the many teams making calls about Lillard if he wants out of Portland.
