Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal

It’s hard to say with any certainty what the outcome will be. There is a possibility that Finney-Smith is simply a poor shooter.

As long as that is the case, he is not a starter-caliber player. As strong of a defender as he is, he’s an offensive liability if he can’t connect from long-range.

However, there are some players that simply are unable to thrive when playing on a less talented, rebuilding team. He went from having Luka Doncic creating for him on the Dallas Mavericks, to legitimately not playing with a proficient playmaker altogether.

It is important to note that the Kings are acquiring him at a low price in this deal. They don’t even play Holmes. By now, it’s obvious that the Kings prefer to have Alex Len backing up Sabonis.

Then, with that in mind, why not take a risk on Finney-Smith? This would be a steal for the Kings if his shooting continues to trend upwards on a more dynamic offensive team.

It is true that Finney-Smith is in theory the archetypical 3-and-D wing.
