Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal
This is something that the Pelicans do not do for Simmons, of course. It’s all to gain four unprotected first-round picks in exchange for making such a move.
As a result, some Pelicans fans are still going to be unhappy about this deal, even with that in mind. It’s likely that they’re going to argue that they should be able to get more for Williamson – especially if they’re going to take Simmons back as well.
Perhaps that’s a possibility. On the other hand, if they decide to put Williamson on the market, the Pelicans may find that there is a smaller market available than they would have hoped. It is likely that potential suitors will be scared off by his injury history.
This makes this seem like a fair trade when you take that into consideration. As a result of this deal, the Pelicans would have perhaps the best collection of draft capital in the league.

In this scenario, they would still have a competitive team, and they would also be able to acquire any star that becomes available as time goes on.
Is it a good idea for the Nets to put them in that situation?
