They’ll have a point, too. Still, the Blazers are a small market team that’s generally avoided tanking. They’d rather remain competitive. This deal helps them do so.
After all, Towns may be a defensive liability. He’s also one of the best offensive centers in the NBA. If Portland can put the right group around him, this could be a means of getting younger while staying in the playoff race.
