Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal 

Some Spurs fans will scoff at this trade. We understand. 

After all, Johnson is extremely young. He’s also the best player on this Spurs team. Why would the Spurs give up on him already? 

Well, it depends on who they draft in the upcoming lottery. If they draft Victor Wembanyama, they may prefer to keep Johnson and get back to the playoffs soon.

On the other hand, if they draft a wing, they may want to extend their timeline.

This deal has them doing so. It’s also got them picking up a pair of unprotected first-round picks. Considering that Green is a solid young wing in his own right, this makes sense for the Spurs.
