Of all the NBA’s individual awards, Executive of the Year may be the one that fans get the least excited about.
Fair enough. As a general rule, fans love players first. On the other hand, don’t rule out the importance of sound general management – it can’t make or break a franchise.
In 2022-23, Rob Pelinka may deserve the award. This Los Angeles Lakers team entered the season with a roster that was practically non-functional.
The spacing was horrendous, and the Lakers appeared poised to miss the postseason once again.
They made it. As it stands, they’re winning their series with the Memphis Grizzlies, too. Pelinka made a series of moves at this year’s trade deadline that improved this team considerably.
Could he make another one by acquiring Terry Rozier of the Charlotte Hornets this summer?
