Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
We’ve basically already explained this. The Heat do this deal because they’re mediocre, and have no means of elevating beyond that point.
This team is bereft of draft capital. Meanwhile, the only young players who would move the needle in a major trade are also win-now players. If the Heat are trading Adebayo or Tyler Herro, they’re probably rebuilding.
So, that’s what we’ve got them doing here. We’d assume the Heat would also move Jimmy Butler if they’re making this trade. Miami could assemble one of the most exciting young cores in the NBA. If Kuminga makes good on his potential, this deal will quickly justify itself.

If there are concerns here, they’ll be about the fit between Poole and Herro. Fair. On the other hand, if it doesn’t work, the Heat can always trade one of them later.
That’s the beauty of having flexibility.
