Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
In simple terms, the Celtics do this deal because Jaylen Brown doesn’t want to be a Celtic anymore.
If that’s true, moving him has its own benefits. With that said, it’s got to be the right deal. This just might be it.
Murray is the focal point of the return here. In fact, pairing Jayson Tatum with a lead ball-handler may make more sense than continuing to pair him with another two-way wing.
Still, Porter Jr. has some star potential as well. He and Tatum would give the Celtics elite spacing on the wings, and a healthy Robert Williams III should be able to make up for Porter Jr.’s poor defense.

All told this is better than watching Brown walk away in free agency. If the Celtics win the championship, of course. Perhaps he’ll reconsider his stance on Boston.
