Ironically, these two franchises have never been rivals. The timelines have simply never lined up. 

The Lakers have dominated plenty of eras of NBA basketball. They were a powerhouse in the 80s, and again in the early 00s. Meanwhile, the Warriors were mostly bad during those times. 

By contrast, the Lakers were on the downswing when the Warriors made their ascension. Even when the Lakers won their 2019-20 NBA title, the Warriors were having a brief down period. 

If anything, these two organizations have been on opposite rebuilding cycles.
