Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal
In some ways, this would be out of character for the Pacers. Normally, this team avoids rebuilding moves.
With that said, they recently made an exception to that rule. Last summer, the Pacers traded Domantas Sabonis for Tyrese Haliburton. With that in mind, they might as well build a roster that’s on his timeline.
This deal accomplishes that goal. It’s got Indiana flipping Turner for two players who are younger than him. Of course, the Pacers wouldn’t strictly move Turner on that basis.
These happen to be two excellent players. Williams III is injury prone, but when healthy, he’s one of the best defensive big men in the NBA.

Meanwhile, Grant Williams is a strong 3-and-D wing who the Pacers would be landing in a sign-and-trade here.
