The Houston Rockets need a point guard this NBA offseason. Don’t they? Well, it depends on who you ask.
Kevin Porter Jr. is remarkably talented. Whether he’s suited to run point for a serious NBA team is another question.
Some will say that he is. They’ll argue that modern NBA point guards are frequently score-first players. Porter Jr,’s tendency to call his own number isn’t an issue for them.
Others will suggest that that’s not the point. Porter Jr. is turnover-prone. He doesn’t necessarily find the hot hand.
Whether score-first or pass-first, these are qualities that some won’t accept in a starting point guard.
They are also not qualities possessed by Tyus Jones of the Memphis Grizzlies. Could the Rockets acquire him this summer?
