On the other hand, there is a downside to even looking at players as archetypes.
We have a tendency to typecast players. We classify them as a certain type of player as rookies, and if they don’t become that player, we’re disappointed. Sometimes, we overlook quality players in the process.
For example, Andrew Wiggins was supposed to be an elite primary shot creator. He hasn’t been that in his whole career.
If we hadn’t put that expectation on him, perhaps we would have recognized him as a strong 3-and-D wing with secondary shot-creating abilities sooner.

With that in mind, we should learn our lesson from our view of Jonathan Kuminga. He’s supposed to be a two-way playmaker, but who knows? Kuminga could be something different entirely.
