Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal 

Well, this deal doesn’t have the Blazers bottoming out. At least, not entirely. 

It’s sure to make them worse. The Blazers are giving up the best player in this deal. In fact, Lillard is clear of Herro by a wide margin. 

That doesn’t mean Herro isn’t a contributor. He is. This is already a high-end shot creator in the NBA. The Blazers will be adding him to a talented enough group to avoid the league’s doldrums. 

He may not fit alongside Anfernee Simons. That’s not the end of the world either. The Blazers should try to make it work – and it might.

On the other hand, if pairing two score-first players poses some difficulties, either will have high trade value down the line.
