For much of NBA history, these were not skills we expected of either of these positions. Longtime fans of either of these franchises can tell you that. 

In fact, the Celtics had a dominant big man before the three-point line existed. The late Bill Russell is one of the best players in the history of the game. Meanwhile, Robert Parrish was a force to be reckoned with as well. 

With that said, if any team can rival Boston’s history of great big men, it’s the Lakers. Wilt Chamberlain holds an absurd number of individual NBA records.

Up until recently, nobody had ever scored more points than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
