Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal 

We almost made this a three-team deal with the Celtics getting win-now talent elsewhere. Then, something occurred to us: 

Anfernee Simons is already a win-now talent.

He’s also a few years younger than Brown. With that said, he also isn’t impactful. Assuming that the Celtics want to remain in the title picture, they’d do poorly to flip Brown for Simons straight up. 

That’s not what’s happening here. Sharpe is another player with superstar potential. Moreover, this deal has the Celtics landed three first-round picks.

Depending on how their season is going, they could flip Sharpe and these picks for another significant player at next year’s deadline. 

After all, if they’re underperforming, something will have to give.
