There’s merit in doubling down on the right skills. You can simply overwhelm opponents if you’ve got the right pieces. It’s simply a matter of identifying them. 

For example, look at the Milwaukee Bucks. This team is a bit lacking in shooting. It doesn’t matter. They won an NBA championship by bludgeoning opponents with pure length and size. 

By contrast, look at the micro-ball 2020-21 Houston Rockets. They tried to triple down on shooters and versatile perimeter defenders.

Ultimately, their lack of size and interior presence would be the catalyst for a lengthy rebuild. 

All told, there are no precise rules around building an NBA roster. Is this a good building move for the Clippers?
