Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal 

For Dallas, this deal comes with a condition. If they don’t retain Kyrie Irving in free agency, they should hang onto their assets. 

Some will suggest that this is a poor use of them anyway. The Mavericks need defenders, and Bogdanovic isn’t strong in that area. 

Fair. Still, this could work. There are two avenues the Mavericks could take with a Luka Doncic / Irving / Bogdanovic trio. The first would be to get the best defenders they can possibly afford at the 3 and the 5. 

The other would be to re-sign Christian Wood, start Tim Hardaway Jr., and just go all-in on offense. That line-up ought to have the best attack in the NBA by a comfortable margin.
