Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
The Raptors could get more draft capital for Siakam if they wanted to.
They just wouldn’t be able to do so while acquiring a young player like Shaedon Sharpe. This is a kid with real star potential. The fact that he’s Canadian counts for the league’s only Canadian team as well.
Of course, he’s not the only young guard with star potential the Raptors are landing here. Anfernee Simons is already a dynamic half-court scorer, and he’s got room to grow. Meanwhile, the Raptors could use some more juice in their half-court attack.
More broadly, it just feels like it’s time for the Raptors to rebuild. This team is in the midst of a second consecutive mediocre season.

By pairing Sharpe and Simons with Scottie Barnes, they’re giving themselves one of the brightest futures in the NBA. As long as they plan accordingly.
