Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal
The Sixers probably don’t do this deal unless Embiid requests a trade. If he doesn’t, they won’t have any reason to look to move the elite big man.
Let’s imagine that he does. It isn’t that difficult. Rumors are already spreading that if the Sixers don’t go all the way this season, Embiid will want to find a new home.
In that event, this is a good return for them. Adebayo is one of the most versatile defensive big men in the NBA. He’s also an outstanding playmaker. If Harden decided to stay in the City of Brotherly Love, they’d make a great duo.
Even if Harden heads elsewhere, this deal leaves Philly in fine shape. Adebayo and Tyrese Maxey will be one of the better young star duos in the NBA.
