Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
Strictly viewed through a transactional lens, the Lakers are losing this trade. They’re receiving less for Davis than they sent out for him.
Unfortunately, we can’t view the deal strictly through that lens. Davis is several years older now. He’s also gotten injured on more than one occasion. He won’t get the same value for the Lakers that he did for the Pelicans.
This is still good value. Onkongwu could be the Lakers’ new starting big man for a decade. Collins and Hunter are also both starting-caliber players in the 25 and under club.
Throw in a first-round pick and a swap, and this is a decent return. The Lakers may not rush to make this deal.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers & Atlanta Hawks Updates
It may depend on the relationship between Davis and LeBron James. If rumors about its decay are untrue, they may opt to keep Davis. Otherwise, this makes sense.
Does it make sense for the Hawks?
