Only, it isn’t. For example, look at the Los Angeles Clippers. This team was widely regarded as a laughingstock throughout the 1990s and 2000s. 

Suddenly, Blake Griffin arrived. Chris Paul followed. The Lob City Clippers were one of the most entertaining contenders in the NBA.
