Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal

Irving would clearly make the Heat a better basketball team. He’s the best player in this deal.
He replaces all of Herro’s shot-creating and floor spacing (and probably then some) while adding elite ball handling at the same time.
Meanwhile, Miami has a vacancy at point guard. They can afford to lose Herro if they’re getting one like Irving. With him running point and Max Struss at the off-guard position, the Heat would have a nice, balanced backcourt.

As for those cultural concerns? Sometimes, you’ve got to take risks. The Heat are having a mediocre 2022-23 season. If this big swing of an opportunity presents itself, they should take it.
