Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal 

There’s a financial angle for Golden State here as well. It’s just a different one. 

Green would likely expect a major raise from his longtime team. This deal has the Warriors moving him before they’re due to give it to him. Williams should earn a sizeable deal in free agency, but it should be more manageable than Green’s. 

It should also, given Williams’ age, be easier to trade. Of course, this isn’t a salary dump for the Warriors, either. 

They’re getting two quality young players in Williams and Pritchard. If the Warriors like what they see, they could continue clearing their books and lean into their young core.
