Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal 

If the Celtics are doing this deal, we’re assuming that they didn’t win an NBA title this season. 

We’re also assuming that they came close. If Boston makes another deep playoff run, but fail to finish it, they may want to make some upgrades this summer. 

This deal should do the trick. Williams may be younger than Green, and Green may be declining. He’s still an elite defender who’s bringing championship experience to the Celtics. 

There’s a financial angle for the Celtics here, too. Green will be on an expiring contract next season, whereas Williams is heading to Golden State in a sign-and-trade.
