Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal 

Well, the Hawks likely won’t hesitate to move Collins. He’s been on the trade block for years. 

Moreover, they should be happy to get a first-round pick here. They’re moving a younger star in Murray for a much older one in George, so they deserve some draft compensation. This will make up some of the ground they lost in that area in their trade to acquire Murray. 

Still, the main point here is to acquire a star contributor who compliments Trae Young more than Murray does. Is George that guy? 

He is. This is an elite 3-and-D wing with secondary shot-creation abilities. He can mask Young’s lack of defense and also compliment him on the offensive side of the ball.

All told, this deal should make the Hawks a better team in 2022-23.
