Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal 

The Pelicans may be losing the best player in this deal. It may also be worth it. 

Firstly, they’re simply improving their depth. Anunoby would slot into Ingram’s starting spot, and Trent Jr. would make for a fantastic sixth man. 

More broadly, they’re also improving their roster construction. At the moment, Zion Williamson, Ingram, and CJ McCollum run this team’s offense.

That’s a pile of shot creation – with very little defense to support it. Anunoby may not be as skilled as Ingram, but he’s a much better defender.

Finally, he’s also more durable. That counts a lot for these Pelicans. Ingram is prone to injury, and so is Williamson. The Pelicans could use a more dependable roster. 

After all, they’ll be facing talented teams on a nightly basis.
