Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
The Mavericks don’t do this deal unless Irving wants to go to another team.
Let’s be completely honest here. How surprised would you be if Kyrie Irving wanted to go to another team? If that would inspire any surprise in you, we’re not sure which NBA you’ve been paying attention to.
In that event, the Mavericks will have their backs against a wall. Irving is a free agent. In theory, he could walk without them receiving anything. With that in mind, this sign-and-trade scenario should suit the Mavericks.
After all, Paul may be aging, but he’s still a starting-caliber point guard. He’ll be a nice compliment to Doncic.

Throw in a solid 3-and-D wing like Craig and a pair of pick swaps, and the Mavericks would have to accept this if Irving is walking.
If that is his whim, of course.
