Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal

The Wizards do this deal to finally trade Beal and rebuild. This is long overdue. If the Wizards don’t make the play-in tournament this season, holding onto Beal would be malpractice. 

Of course, there are fair reasons this club might not want to bottom out. The Wizards are not exactly a marquee team in the NBA. Tanking for a few years could doom them to obscurity for a decade without some lottery luck. 

They don’t have to bottom out after making this deal. Herro is already good enough to avoid that fate. He’s also much younger than Beal. He can slide right into his role.

The Wizards won’t be as good, but with some lottery luck, they could be improved in just a couple of years.
