Sure. That doesn’t mean they can’t afford to accumulate more assets. The Nets acquired a lot of first-round picks from the Phoenix Suns at this year’s trade deadline.
This deal has them adding a young player in the draft and a future first. The idea is that they’ll soon trade their collection of future assets for a disgruntled star player.
In the meantime, they could use Theis and McConnell. The former is a stretch big man who could possibly help unlock Ben Simmons, if the Nets are still interested in maximizing him.
