Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal 

There is a good chance that the Wizards will refuse to talk to the Sixers if they insist on receiving a cache of draft capital in exchange for Beal. 

It is simply not possible for them to offer it. Despite this, this small market team has generally shown a reluctance to rebuild in a wholesale manner. As a result of this deal, they are able to avoid one. 

As a result, they are also able to sign a young player with the potential to be a star. There is no doubt that Maxey has the potential to surpass Beal within a season or two, if not sooner.

While the Sixers might decide they don’t have time to wait for that to happen, the Wizards are more likely to do so.

It should also be noted that Harris is an excellent stretch four. It is still possible for the Wizards to make a play-in run after this deal, and they get much younger in the process as well. 

It would be worth starting over for something like that.
