It may be a step too far to go that far. In the NBA, there can still be bad contracts – they just have to be on max contracts in order to be considered bad.
A player who is on a max contract and isn’t living up to it can be very difficult to trade for if he isn’t living up to it. It doesn’t matter whether he gets a first-round pick in exchange for his services.
It may be necessary for a team to attach multiple players in order to move him. There’s a good chance that it will be easier for you to just sit him down. With that context in mind, it is fair to say that DeRozan is on a good contract at the moment.

Despite the fact that he’s not making nearly what he deserves in terms of money, his production has arguably warranted it in recent years. It has to be said, however, that given his age, that may not be the case for a long time to come.
