So, taking that into account, it seems like the Nets have been at the center of the league’s universe for a long time now. 

Three seasons ago, the Nets acquired James Harden from the Houston Rockets. Adding him to a team with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving who were already part of the core seemed unfair.

In the face of so much firepower, how could the rest of the league possibly compete with such a powerful team? 

As it turned out, they did not have to do that. Harden requested a trade at the trade deadline the following season. The request was granted. The same request was made by Kevin Durant this summer.

The request he made was rescinded. Who knows if he will issue it again in the future? Considering that Irving is making plans to leave town, it is entirely possible that Durant will follow suit in a similar manner.
