When you’re a player who has looked like a core member of a team, there are times when you find yourself being traded and it’s not even your fault. 

The league would be a very different place if teams were only concerned with a player’s productivity, but they aren’t. Teams must consider their salary sheet as well when making moves to ensure that their players’ performance is maximized. 

So, the question isn’t exactly, “Is this player good?” The real question is, “Is this player going to be worth the price I will eventually have to pay to employ him?”

Saddiq Bey’s team will have to ask themselves that question two summers from now.

On the other hand, Reddish’s team will be forced to make that decision this summer. He will be eligible for a rookie extension by then. 

Could the Pistons be the team to look at what the league should be like and ask themselves what it should look like?
