There comes a time in everyone’s life when they need a mentor. There is no doubt that NBA players need mentoring just as much as anyone else.
There is someone who can show you the ropes if you need it. Unless you have someone to teach you, how will you learn if you don’t have anyone to do it for you? Having the proper guidance will allow a person to travel much further than they ever thought possible.
Veterans need to surround the league’s younger players to show them how everything works in the league. They will be able to develop good habits throughout their career if they do that.
As things stand, the Houston Rockets do not have a lot of veteran mentors on their roster.

There is no doubt that Eric Gordon is the elder statesman for this rebuilding club, but by now, it has become obvious that he would prefer to play elsewhere than here. No rule says an unhappy veteran will make a good mentor.
