Fair enough. They’re concerned about their future. Once this aging team finally falls apart, they’ll be left without draft capital. The ramifications of this deal may sting for a while. 

Perhaps that’s why the Lakers just acquired Rui Hachimura. That wasn’t strictly an all-in move for the present. They were interested in targeting a young player they can grow with in the future. 

On the other hand, Hachimura doesn’t fix all of their problems. He’s a shaky three-point shooter and a questionable defender.
