Jokes aside, we don’t blame the Hawks – too much, anyway. 

They’re in a difficult situation with Collins. Realistically, they always have been. It’s not as simple as just trading him for the sake of moving on. 

It was never simple. When Collins was due for his rookie extension, the Hawks entered into a familiar situation for NBA teams. They could either extend him or let him walk for nothing. 

The latter is rarely a preferable course of action. Meanwhile, Collins had been productive. He’s simply a difficult player to put a dollar value on.

Collins is a fantastic play finisher, but he’s reliant on teammates to create offense. He’s a fine defender, but not an exceptional one.
