Indiana Pacers receive: C Mitchell Robinson
New York Knicks Receive: C Myles Turner
Those may be the two main functions of a big in today’s league. The question is, which is more valuable?
The obvious answer might be floor spacing. To be sure, having a big man who can shoot has its benefits.
It draws the opposing team’s benefit out of the paint, where they can no longer protect the rim.
At the same time, this league is more pick-and-roll heavy than it’s ever been. Having a big who can catch a lob reliably opens up those sets. That has a lot of value in its own right.
