Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal 

This is a talent downgrade for the Raptors. At the same time, we’re not sure if it makes them worse. 

This team could use another 3-and-D wing besides Anunoby. They’re stacked with defensive wings, but most of them are playmakers with shooting limitations. Crowder is a floor spacer. 

So is Saric, for that matter – especially when he’s manning the 5. The Raptors may be losing the best player in this deal, but they may be giving themselves a more balanced roster in the first place. 

Still, that’s not their primary reason for making this deal. That would be the first-round pick they’re receiving.

Even if they continue losing following this trade, that’ll be a valuable asset as they rebuild. If all goes well, they’ll be a buyer before too long.
